BIOS Password

Postby craiga on Tue May 12, 2009 9:46 am

We need to get into the BIOS on our terminals but they are locked out with a password. Is there a default password all terminals use or will we need to get in contact with the supplier we purchased them from? We have the 1021 model if that is of any use.

Hi Craiga,
There is indeed a default password. In the case of the lx1021 it would be 55450269. In the case of the lx1010 and lx1000 it is 554502.
Don' t forget that if you want to securely prevent people from booting form a pen drive or any other boot device, you have to define your own password
Please also know that if it is forgotten we won't be able to recover it like we can recover admin passwords at the os level.
Best Regards

Hi Kirsti,
First of all, just explaining for everyone who may interested, the bios password and the administrator passwords are 2 completely unrelated things.

The only way to change your admin password is either through the rescue manager (a text interface that you can bring up by pressing F2 at boot up) or through the system manager (that you can reach when the unit has gone into graphical mode). To change it you either need to know the current one, or you ask us to reset it by sending us a special token from the rescue manager. We only change it if we are satisfied of your identity, so that not anyone can ask for resetting it behind your back.

Now the bios settings, these give access to the boot order or PXE settings. They are protected by a password, specified in one of the parent posts, and you can change it by going to the bios menu (press del during the very first stages of boot up). There is an item in the main menu to change that password. That password doesn't protect your sessions from being edited, it just protects the hardware settings. If you want to protect your sessions, have a look at the following post:

Tell me if you need more directions.

Is there a universal password to access the bios in a Compaq Presario 2200? I heard about a universal password [code] to access computer bios. I forgot the password for bios on my pc and can't get in. It is a Compaq Presario 2200, and was manufactured in August of 2004.
