HI Kirsti,
Well that is a tricky question, it really depends on whether you are experiencing the same problem or not, the same symptoms can have different sources. There I was trying to see if David had set up the sessions in a mode that wasn't suitable for the monitors he had connected to the lx1022. On Ubuntu Gnome uses xrandr to set up resolution and refresh rate, and Gnome only kicks in after the user logs in, and if the last recorded value didn't work with the new monitor or local graphics set up in our case, I had a hunch that it could go blank and lose the connection. I am not saying this is the reason it doesn't work in your case, nor that it was the reason it didn't work for him.
In any case be sure you are connecting in Direct mode (query) or if you are doing so in indirect mode, choose "No" in exit after session terminates. The XDMCP is done so that there is a connection made to a first server which has a list of xdmcp server, and when you choose a server in the list, the first connection ends, and an other is made with the server you chose. if you tick "exit after connection ends", what happens is that after the first one finishes, the session terminates as well, simple but deadly to your session. The first thing you should try is to check if it works in query (direct) mode, to avoid any misunderstanding.
Please give us any advances on your progress,
Ben
